What is FutureFlag?
FutureFlag is an independent civic design project exploring what a future British republican flag could look like. It is not an official government process, a political party platform, or a final referendum. It is a public space for imagination, debate, and design.
Why flags matter
A flag is a compressed argument about identity. In a single image it carries history, geography, aspiration, and a sense of belonging. The flags we live under shape how we picture ourselves — which is exactly why it is worth thinking openly about what a future flag could mean.
Is this anti-British?
No. The project starts from the belief that British identity is broad enough to be discussed, redesigned, and reimagined democratically. Loving a place often means asking how its symbols could better represent everyone in it.
Who can submit?
Anyone, anywhere. You don't need an account, formal design training, or any particular politics — only the willingness to put forward a serious idea and explain the thinking behind it.
What happens to submitted designs?
They appear in the public gallery, can be voted on, and may be featured. The community surfaces the strongest ideas through votes, comments, and the leaderboard. Nothing is final; everything is a contribution to a shared conversation.
Are submissions official?
No. FutureFlag is a civic design project and a public archive of ideas — not a constitutional process. Think of it as a sketchbook for a country.
